glacier model

icetools is a collection of programs, scripts and interfaces based on existing numerical libraries specially designed to model ice flow and deformation. The general approach is to implement a non-linear viscosity based on the ideas of Glen and Nye, solve the Stokes equation with this non linear viscosity and provide several boundary condition types useful for ice models.

At the moment, icetools has two development branches:
  • edu branch: designed for educational purposes, like teaching numerical ice flow modeling
  • power branch: designed for high performance 2D and 3D models, computing in parallel.
